{"id":267088,"date":"2021-11-08T14:56:35","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T18:56:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/news\/port-of-spain-is-a-beachhead-to-increase-investment-in-region-says-caribbean-export\/"},"modified":"2022-06-13T21:27:08","modified_gmt":"2022-06-14T01:27:08","slug":"port-of-spain-is-a-beachhead-to-increase-investment-in-region-says-caribbean-export","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/es\/news\/port-of-spain-is-a-beachhead-to-increase-investment-in-region-says-caribbean-export\/","title":{"rendered":"Puerto Espa\u00f1a es una &#8216;cabeza de playa&#8217; para aumentar la inversi\u00f3n en la regi\u00f3n, dice Caribbean Export"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Speaking at the first virtual investment forum taking place this week in Trinidad and Tobago, Deodat Maharaj, Executive Director of the Caribbean Export Development Agency ( Caribbean Export), described the event as a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153pioneering approach to investment promotion\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referencing the COP26 negotiations, Mr Maharaj emphasised the need for the transition to a green economy, using Port of Spain as a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153beachhead\u00e2\u20ac\u009d for the Caribbean and further afield to increase foreign direct investment (FDI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two-day forum saw more than 900 registrants, representing businesses, investors and site selection experts from 67 countries explore investment opportunities in the Twin Republic, critical to economic recovery following the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.investt.co.tt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">InvesTT, the country\u00c2\u00b4s investment promotion agency<\/a>, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the event was supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Caribbean Export<\/a>. It showcased the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s competitive advantages in key sectors, including creative industries, business services, manufacturing, renewable energy logistics and agrotechnology. Panellists representing existing investors in Trinidad and Tobago from different industries provided key insights alongside investment facilitation experts and officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the opening remarks, Senator the Honourable Paula Gopee-Scoon, Trinidad and Tobago\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Minister of Trade and Industry, pointed to a new cycle of investment emerging in the post-pandemic period, precipitated by positive disruptive forces like digital transformation and renewable energy. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Reliable supply chains and access to export markets cannot be taken for granted and must be actively created and sustained.
