{"id":267899,"date":"2020-02-24T12:55:07","date_gmt":"2020-02-24T16:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/news\/svg-inaugural-investment-forum-to-be-held-in-may-2020\/"},"modified":"2022-06-13T21:39:10","modified_gmt":"2022-06-14T01:39:10","slug":"svg-inaugural-investment-forum-to-be-held-in-may-2020","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/es\/news\/svg-inaugural-investment-forum-to-be-held-in-may-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"El Foro de Inversi\u00f3n Inaugural de SVG se llevar\u00e1 a cabo en mayo de 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The investment promotions agency of St. Vincent and the Grenadines \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Invest SVG has announced that the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s inaugural SVG Investment Forum will be held on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedev.local\/event\/svg-investment-forum-2020\/\">2<sup>nd<\/sup> May 2020<\/a> on the island of Bequia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement comes at a time when more and more countries across the world are competing to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) particularly as this is the third consecutive year for global decline in FDI according to UNCTAD\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 2019 World Investment Report. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is noted however, that despite this the\nCaribbean continues to receive some of the highest levels of FDI in the world\nand thus making initiatives such as this a prime opportunity to increase\nvisibility and awareness for investment opportunities.&nbsp; Further, the SVG Investment Forum 2020 comes\nwithin the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 40<sup>th<\/sup> year of independence and it is anticipated\nthat this will provide an added bonus to increase the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s visibility\ninternationally and of course with investors.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Executive Director at Invest SVG Annette\nMark described in her remarks how they wanted to expose investors to the\nculture, way of doing business and to expand their perception as to what could\nbe possible.&nbsp; The aims of the event are\nto produce \u00e2\u20ac\u0153heightened visibility as a prime jurisdiction in the Caribbean for\ninvestment.&nbsp; To generate investor leads\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 and\nto give investors who are not familiar with St. Vincent and the Grenadines and\nopportunity to meet public officials and to understand how we do business\nhere\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Mark also shared how the investors that\nwould be in attendance would be \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcqualified\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 beforehand, to ensure the highest\nquality of investor leads, ultimately increasing the possibility of doing\nbusiness.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>InvestSVG is expecting to attract over 100\nattendees including qualified investors, government officials, private sector representatives\nand development partners to the event in May, which is being supported by the\nCaribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) the Caribbean\nDevelopment Bank and Compete Caribbean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gayle Gollop, Legal Advisor at Caribbean\nExport delivered remarks on behalf of Officer in Charge, Anthony Bradshaw who\nwas unable to attend.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Caribbean Export recognizes that the Vincentian economy is focused on growth in the upcoming years. The IMF projected a 2.3% growth in 2020 for the economy fuelled by increased tourist arrivals. It is however recommended that sustainable growth be achieved by enhancing the competitiveness of the local private sector, increasing exports and investments and reaching new markets, which will lead to increased GDP, foreign exchange earnings and employment.
