{"id":268185,"date":"2019-05-15T13:16:07","date_gmt":"2019-05-15T17:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/news\/the-time-to-invest-in-bpo-in-the-caribbean-is-now\/"},"modified":"2022-06-13T21:49:29","modified_gmt":"2022-06-14T01:49:29","slug":"the-time-to-invest-in-bpo-in-the-caribbean-is-now","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/es\/news\/the-time-to-invest-in-bpo-in-the-caribbean-is-now\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a1El momento de invertir en BPO en el Caribe es ahora!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), has the potential to be\ntransformative for countries in the Caribbean and should be further explored\nand exploited.&nbsp; This is the charge from\nthe Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) organisers of the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\nOutsource to the Caribbean Conference (OCC) 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosting the event in collaboration with the Caribbean\nAssociation of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA) and with the Cura\u00c3\u00a7ao\nInvestment and Export Promotion Agency (CINEX) some 23 countries were\nrepresented by delegates looking to explore new sourcing opportunities and\ndiscover what the Caribbean has to offer in the BPO sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President of the Caribbean\nAssociation of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA), Tessa Jacques in her\nopening remarks of the conference, shared that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve done the homework and the\nsite selection companies and potential investors have indicated to us that they\nknow the Caribbean but have challenges identifying our individual territories.\nThis is not a bad thing. Our goal as CAIPA is to build on this perception of the\nCaribbean and identify for investors niche opportunities in each of our\nterritories.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collaboration between the Caribbean countries was the main\ntheme throughout the conference for the region to achieve long term success in\nthe industry.&nbsp; Jamaica is one country\napplauded by the Hon. Eugene Rhuggenaath, Prime Minister of Cura\u00c3\u00a7ao, for its\ngrowth in the sourcing sector as it has led the way in the regions BPO industry\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Jamaica is a pure example of the success in the BPO industry, with over 36,000\nemployees from 60 players.&nbsp; Jamaica\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s BPO\nindustry has grown on average 20% per year and is expected to continue growing\n15-18% in 2019.&nbsp; Congratulations\nJamaica\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacques highlighted that in 2010 the Caribbean\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s BPO sector\nprovided employment for 47,000 workers, and by 2015 this figure had grown to\n74,000 and continues to grow.&nbsp; With\ncompanies generating close to US$25million in revenue for every 1000 agents. &nbsp;The opportunity for the Caribbean to\ncapitalise upon technology enabled service delivery is apparent. Ahead of the\nconference Caribbean Export carried out a poll on the OCC website and found\nthat 60% of all first-time visitors to the site had intentions to expand in the\nregion within the next 12-24 months.&nbsp; This\nis a strong signal of continued growth in the sector in the near to medium\nterm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This impressive growth in the BPO sector will accelerate and\nbecome even bigger for Caribbean destinations\u00e2\u20ac\u009d continued the Prime Minister as\nhe underscored that the success of the Caribbean was deeply rooted in its\nheritage, diversity, versatility and creativity as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153One Caribbean, one\nnearshore solution for our partners in the America\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, Europe and even Africa\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the event, two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were\nsigned between Caribbean Export, CAIPA, the Caribbean Association of\nTelecommunications Organizations (CANTO) and the ACCA Caribbean. This is an\nindication of their commitment to work together to continue supporting the\ngrowth and development of the Caribbean\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s BPO sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another significant undertaking at the event was the hosting\nof the first Caribbean BPO of the Year Awards. The event sought to celebrate\nthe accomplishments of Caribbean BPO firms over the period 2017\/2018, with a\nfocus on jobs created, investment and innovation in service delivery. The applicants\nwere scored by Anupam Govil of AVASANT, Margaret Rose of Site Selection\nMagazine and Kirk Laughlin of Nearshore Americas. The winners were announced at\nthe celebratory reception at the Conference, where itelBPO of Jamaica and the\nBahamas copped the coveted Caribbean BPO of the Year Award. itelBPO, also won\nthe Caribbean BPO Employer of the Year Award. The winner of the other 2\ncategories, that is, Caribbean BPO Investor of the Year Award and Caribbean BPO\nInnovator of the Year Award was Qualfon of Guyana.
