The event marks the launch of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Culture in the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Rebalancing trade flows between Europe and the Caribbean?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, the first impact study on this landmark EPA concluded in 2008, with a dedicated Protocol on Cultural Cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cultural and creative industries possess an immense potential to contribute to the region\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s long-term economic growth through employment of young people and cultural content productions. The representation of Caribbean cultural products on the global stage, however, is limited. In 2014, as reported in UNESCO\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Global Report Re|Shaping Cultural Policies (2018) (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/in\/documentViewer.xhtml?v=2.1.196&amp;id=p::usmarcdef_0000260592&amp;file=\/in\/rest\/annotationSVC\/DownloadWatermarkedAttachment\/attach_import_54549ce1-9806-4484-be13-a1959d0a41e6%3F_%3D260592eng.pdf&amp;updateUrl=updateUrl2452&amp;ark=\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000260592\/PDF\/260592eng.pdf.multi&amp;fullScreen=true&amp;locale=en#%5B%7B%22num%22%3A642%2C%22gen%22%3A0%7D%2C%7B%22name%22%3A%22XYZ%22%7D%2Cnull%2Cnull%2C0%5D\" target=\"_blank\">Global Report Re|Shaping Cultural Policies (2018)<\/a>,Global South countries accounted for only 26.5% of global cultural exports. The public debates, titled Create|2030, will explore ways to establish a more balanced cultural trade and improved mobility for artists in the Caribbean. Cultural trade experts on the panel will examine the future of creative industries and their role in the Caribbean\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sustainable development. Artists and cultural professionals are invited to attend and share their insights and perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will also present the main findings of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"impact study (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/creativity\/publications\/culture-cariforum-european-union-economic\" target=\"_blank\">impact study<\/a> funded by the UNESCO-Aschberg Programme for Artists and Cultural Professionals and guided by the principles of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005) (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/creativity\/convention\" target=\"_blank\">Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005)<\/a>. The research has revealed that the Agreement\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s cultural protocol, which <strong>grants Caribbean creative workers and their creations a preferential and simplified access to the EU market<\/strong>, has not yet resulted in a more balanced relationship between the two regions\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cultural and creative industries. Despite significant commitments undertaken by the EU, there is currently no dedicated funding or cultural cooperation programme to implement the cultural provisions and benefit the artists.
