{"id":267937,"date":"2019-11-26T08:30:51","date_gmt":"2019-11-26T12:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/news\/caribbean-export-support-regional-artist-to-leverage-the-digital-music-industry\/"},"modified":"2022-06-13T20:16:48","modified_gmt":"2022-06-14T00:16:48","slug":"caribbean-export-support-regional-artist-to-leverage-the-digital-music-industry","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/nl\/news\/caribbean-export-support-regional-artist-to-leverage-the-digital-music-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Caribbean Export ondersteunt regionale artiest om gebruik te maken van de digitale muziekindustrie"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The billion-dollar\nGlobal music industry has changed rapidly over the past 10 years alone.&nbsp; Some may argue that the digital age has made\nit that much more accessible with social media platforms supporting artist and\nnew music discovery.&nbsp; However, the\nintroduction of streaming shook up the industry causing adaptation and change\nto enable artists capitalise through the monetize digital music. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YouTube along with other social media platforms has birthed stars allowing unknown artists to reach parts of the world they couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t imagine and creating a demand or following for their music long before any record label picked them up.&nbsp; But how do artists get discovered online?&nbsp; And how can the Caribbean musicians leverage digital platforms to export their music globally?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignleft is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Using Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to increase your Music Discovery\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ff48M9hiw_M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These are\nsome of the questions the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean\nExport) is attempting to answer with its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedev.local\/business-of-music\/\">Business of Music (BOM)<\/a>\nprogramme.&nbsp; \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Understanding of the digital\nmusic industry is imperative if an artist is going to succeed and the Business\nof Music training programme aims to build the capacity of artists, managers,\nproducers and those involved in the music industry\u00e2\u20ac\u009d informed Allyson Francis,\nServices Specialist at Caribbean Export.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/content.carib-export.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/038-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187345\" width=\"365\" height=\"243\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Since 2017,\nthe Agency has worked with Business Support Organisations (BSOs) specifically\nthe Coalition on Services Industries (CSIs) from across the region to enable\nthose involved in the industry to participate in BOM sessions via the online <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedev.local\/business-of-music\/\">self-learning\nplatform<\/a>, and face to face workshops.&nbsp; A&nbsp; new\ndimension to this training was the instructor led webinars. Over 120 people\nhave participated in these initiatives thus far and most recently, the Agency\nheld a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedev.local\/event\/business-of-music-face-to-face-sessions\/\">two-day\nworkshop<\/a> in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/coscap.org\/\">COSCAP<\/a> (Copyright Society of Composers, Authors\nand Publishers Inc.) and the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) and the\n\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcknowledge company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 <a href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/\">Music Ally\nLtd<\/a> in Barbados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignright is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Business of Music - Get your hands dirty!\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gH35lYgvGEU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop welcomed twenty-three (23) participants from nine Caribbean countries who gained insight on topics such as the mystery of YouTube\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s algorithm and how to optimise it; how to develop a lean and mean online campaign; how to leverage tools such as <a href=\"https:\/\/chartmetric.com\/\">Chartmetric<\/a> amongst others.&nbsp; Participants also performed digital health checks to get a better understanding of how they or their artists are viewed online and increase their understanding of how their music can be discovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t\nan age now where you can simply sit back and relax and hope that people get\ninvolved with you and your music simply by making music available.&nbsp; You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got to be regularly interacting with\npeople\u00e2\u20ac\u009d stressed the CEO and Co-founder of Music Ally Ltd \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Paul Brindley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153You have to\ngo where the music fan is so that means making sure that all of those channels\nare absolutely properly optimised, so your Youtube, Spotify, all the social\nmedia platforms and make sure they are all linked together\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he continued.&nbsp; \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Make the music fans life as easy as possible\nand so think through the eyes of the music fan and think, how are they going to\ndiscover me?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Our\nmanagers, musicians, artists need to leverage the tools that are out there and\ndo everything they can to increase their chances of being discovered\u00e2\u20ac\u009d commented\nFrancis.&nbsp; \u00e2\u20ac\u0153At Caribbean Export we are\ncommitted to providing the necessary support, but we can only take you so far.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignleft is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Do you want to be the next Rihanna?\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zxlC71dZhdg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One participant from Saint Lucia Akeem Anderson, artist and producer from Onel Sound Productions summed up his experience, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The last two days have been nothing but beneficial.&nbsp; The majority of us who have been in attendance are pretty much individuals who have gotten our feet wet already in the business and in the industry.&nbsp; We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re getting some gigs, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had some success, we have a little bit of notoriety.&nbsp; However, the information that they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve disseminated is going to allow us to chisel in our characteristics and our skills, honing in on our good qualities and strengths and maximise our resources however limited or expansive that they may be in to reaching not just a regional audience but also an international audience and getting the revenue we desire for our work and our intellectual property\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The billion-dollar Global music industry has changed rapidly over the past 10 years alone.&nbsp; Some may argue that the digital age has made it that much more accessible with social media platforms supporting artist and new music discovery.&nbsp; However, the introduction of streaming shook up the industry causing adaptation and change to enable artists capitalise [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":249011,"menu_order":0,"template":"","tags":[],"class_list":["post-267937","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 -
